The program FTM2008 is divided into seven distinct areas called workspaces that focus on the key tasks of research and data management for your family tree. The following list explains some of the new features available in each of the workspaces.

- Improved file merge. The Merge Wizard helps you import to bring into a program a file that was created using another program.
- Global task management. Tasks can be added for the tree or for a person.
