The RootsWeb Meta Search searches multiple databases and files in one search at Rootsweb.
Rootsweb is the largest and oldest free genealogy site on the web
today with hundreds of millions global names online.
In addition to
providing assistance and web space for genealogy societies, RootsWeb
is also a supporter of the USGenWeb projects, and houses many GenWeb
pages and data archives.
Rootsweb has hundreds of gigabytes
(millions of pages) of free genealogy data, with more added every
day. There are over 33 million individuals on file in World Connect Project where RootsWeb provides the resource that could eventually
connect the family trees of everyone in the world.
The RootsWeb site states that performing a thorough search on
RootsWeb can be challenging, but rewarding.
There are several reasons
for this. First, RootsWeb is very, very large. There are literally
more than one million Web pages of content and hundreds of millions
of names on RootsWeb.
Second, RootsWeb actually consists of thousands
of Web sites, databases and files that have accumulated in numerous
different formats over more than 13 years and which continue to grow
every day. Third, this accumulation was not planned. Hence, there is
today no single place where you can search all of RootsWeb.
But now there is a meta search for Rootsweb that searches 23 of
Rootsweb largest databases at once. These include:
