Bond, physicians, stated in a certificate, under date of Oct 27, 1738: "We have carefully examined the state of health of the marines and passsengers on board of the ship St. Andrew, Captain Stedman, from Rotterdam, and found a great number laboring under a malignant, eruptive fever, and are of the opinion, they cannot, for some time, be landed in town without the danger of infecting the inhabitants."
