John H. CHRIST Biography

John H. Christ, was a farmer at one time, worked in the mines, was conductor on the miners' train for the P. & R. Co.; was a traveling salesman for flour and feed. He had owned quite some property. He had one daughter who is married to Dr. John Sutton.

CHRIST, DR. JACOB, was a prominent physician and surgeon. He had a large practice and was often called 15 miles to attend the sick. He built the house where his grandson, Harry, now lives. He had six sons and two daughters; Isaac, John, Lewis, Jacob, David, Levi. He was in the war at Baltimore in 1814; David and Levi were in the Civil War; Levi was a doctor and took up his father's practice in 1885. Both died in 1876.

CHRIST, CHARLES, a son of David, was a painter by trade; was clerking for A. T. Felty for some years and is now in the grocery business at the corner of Tulpehocken and Canal streets. He owns quite some property and is married to a Miss Felty. CHRIST, JOHN M, a son of Dr. Jacob Christ, was a wheelwright by trade, and was at one time in the mercantile business in Tremont; moved back to Pine Grove and bought the property that his son now owns. He had one son and two daughters. One was married to A. K. Francis; Wellington was married to a Miss Morrett; he was a telegraph operator and was train dispatcher for the P. & R. Company at Pine Grove, was also station agent. He is at present in the mercantile business, the firm being Christ & Rehrer in the building where Miller, Filbert & Co. used to have store.

CHRIST, EDWARD, a son of Solomon, was married to Sallie Smeltzer. He was clerk at one time in Miller, Graeff & Co.'s office and in the railroad offices for the P. R. R., afterward engaged in the sale of coal and ice and in the manufacture of fences, farming and raising chickens. He had seven sons and two daughters. Fred is a jeweler and lives in Blackfoot, Idaho; Reiff is a telegraph operator and also lives in Idaho; Guy, Caleb, Stanley and Frank run the business; Harry was a machinist, he died about two years ago; Emily is married and lives in Philadelphia; Claire is at home. Mr. Christ died about a year ago. Fred was in the Spanish American War.

CHRIST, HARRY, a son of Dr. Levi Christ, was born in Pine Grove, was married to Rose Stine, a daughter of Amos Stine. He was at one time in Paxson's store, then in Miller, Filbert & Co.'s store. He is at present in the clothing business, has been for about 23 years, the firm is Christ & Stine. He has been in the school board for some 15 years, has a large circle of friends. He has one son and one daughter, the son is a student at Gettysburg col- lege, the daughter is married.

CHRIST, DAVID, a son of Dr. Jacob Christ, was born in Lebanon Co. Dec. 25, 1827, was a painter by trade, removed with his parents to Pine Grove in infancy, was married to Eliza Saus- ser, had three sons and two daughters; Charles is in the grocery business; Edward is a painter and contractor; Levi died some years ago; Kate is married to John Groh; Amanda died. He was in the Civil War.
