John P. Earnest Biography
EARNEST, JOHN P., came from Lebanon Co., was a shoe maker, worked for Wm. Lerch and also for Lewis Luckenbill. He bought out Luckenbill and carried on the business in what is now the bar room of the Eagle Hotel for quite a number of years, has been traveling salesman for some 40 years and is agent for a number of building associations.
He was interested in raising Company G, 4th Regt, was 2d Lieut., was elected to captain, then to Major and Lt. Colonel. He served as Major in the Spanish American War, was with the regiment in Porto Rico, and is still hale at the age of 72 years.
He has accumulated some property, owns the house where he lives and the house where the post office is in.
He has three daughters; Mamie is married to James L. Loser and lives in Tamaqua; Katie is married to the route agent on the Lebanon & Tremont branch of the P. & R.; Vinnie is married to a Mr. Mengle and lives in Wayne township.
The Col. was postmaster under the Harrison administration.
