Byrer Family Biography
The emigrant ancestor of this branch of the family was John Casper Byrer, a farmer and school teacher of Germany. He married Rosanna Schley, and came to the United States in June, 1805, landing at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and settling in Hempsfield township, Westmoreland county. Among their children was Frederick, of whom further.
(II) Frederick, son of John Casper and Rosanna (Schley) Byrer, was born at Poppenwick, near Ludwigsburg, in the Province of Wurtemburg, Germany, 1792, died in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, September 8, 1869. He spent his early years in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, where his parents had settled upon emigrating, afterward moving to Uniontown, where he lived until his death. He married, in 1818, Susana, daughter of David Frederick Cobaugh, who was born in Switzerland, May 14, 1756, and moved to Cambria county, Pennsylvania, in 1783, married (first) Susana Shuraugh and (second) a Miss Garardin. Tradition says that he was a remarkably well educated man, speaking seven languages with great fluency. They were the parents of Eliza, wife of Joseph Derrick
