Fast Family Biography

The Fasts of Fairchance, Pennsylvania, came to Fayette county from West Virginia where Dr. Ephraim B. Fast was born. His grandfather was Jonathan Fast, who was a farmer of West Virginia. He married and among his children was a son Richard M., of whom further.

(II) Richard M., son of Jonathan Fast, was born near Fairmont, West Virginia, March, 1835. He grew to manhood on the home farm and followed agriculture as his principal occupation all his life. He was a member of the Christian church, and a Republican in politics. He married Sarah E., daughter of Thomas and Sarah Dolittle. Among their children was Ephraim B., of whom further.

(III) Ephraim B., son of Richard M. Fast. was born near Fairmont, Marion county, West Virginia, September 26, 1861. He was educated in the public schools, and grew to manhood on the home farm. He decided upon the profession of dentistry and after a full course was graduated from Philadelphia Deutal College, class of 1890. He chose Fairchance, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, as a location, establishing in practice there. He is highly regarded as a professional man and is an active, useful citizen. He is a member of the Central Christian Church of Uniontown, and for several years teacher in the Sabbath school. In public life he has served for the past six years as school director of the borough of Fairchance. He is an active, working, interested member and has aided greatly in increasing the efficiency of the borough schools. In politics he is a Republican and interested in all that concerns the welfare of his town. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Modern Woodmen of America and clerk of the local camp.

He married Florence M., born in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, daughter of Henry J. Dougherty. Children: Malden J., born October 27, 1893; Edwin B., May 12, 1896; Florence M., August 25, 1898; Benning, June 17, 1903
