Poletz Family Biography

This prominent Italian family was established in Fayette county by Rosolino Poletz, born in Italy, where he was educated and lived until 1897, when he came to the United States, locating in Brownsville, Fayette county, Pennsylvania, where he established a fruit produce and confectionery business and prospered. In 1903 he organized and opened a bank under the name of R. Poletz, continuing such until his death, June 7, 1911. He was a very able business man, dealt honorably with the patrons of his bank and was of the grentest assistance to his countrymen and other foreign residents of the town in the transaction of their financial affairs. He stood very high in the foreign colony and was universally respected by all classes. He was a Republican in politics, having become a naturalized citizen. In religion he was a Roman Catholic. He married a daughter of Italy, Mary R. Costante, who survives him with children: Lucretia, Frank and Ernest.

Thomas Poletz, brother of Rosolino Poletz, was born in Italy, March 4, 1887. In 1897 he joined his brother in Brownsville. He attended there the public schools and is a graduate of Douglass Business College. He began business life as a bookkeeper for his brother, later became a partner, and since the death of his brother is in full charge of the business, which he keeps fully up to the standard established by its founder. The bank transacts a general banking business, dealing largely in foreign business, exchange, steamship tickets, etc., meeting all the demands of its foreign patrons. He is a Republican in politics and active in the party. In religion he is a Roman Catholic. He married, April 22, 1909. Catherine Costante, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, sister of Mary R., widow of Rosolino Poletz. The family home is in Brownsville.
